PROVIDENCE – A coalition of grassroots organizers will lead a local rally in solidarity with the March for Racial Justice on October 1, 2017 at India Point Park in Providence, RI.

The March for Racial Justice is a black and indigenous led multi-community movement organized to resist the U.S. laws, policies, and practices that remain steeped in racism and white supremacy. The march is open to the public and all who are ready to work towards dismantling the oppressive structures, institutions, and practices that exaggerate inequality and dehumanize people of color.

From the March For Racial Justice - RI organizers: “We began organizing our rally in solidarity with the national march, following the not-guilty verdict in the police murder of Philando Castille. The Castille verdict is just one event in a national history defined by systemic racism. In the wake of the election, white supremacists and other racists have been emboldened, and the government has signaled its intent to further attack vulnerable people and communities. Our sense of justice demands that we work to end systemic racism in our communities and beyond, together. We are committed to collaboratively developing and engaging in actions that improve life where we live. Any discussions we have are oriented toward that goal.”

“Every day, we are watching the most vulnerable communities in the US be attacked by our justice system and by privileged individuals who don't care about our humanity, our lives, or our loved ones,” said M4RJ National Co-Chair, Dorcas Davis. “M4RJ is the moment to stand with our brothers and sisters and stand up for each other in the face of increasing terror. We will stand strong together in love because we believe in a future where every single one of us, regardless of race, gender, sexuality, class, religion, and disabilities are given equal opportunity and protection of the law.”

The public is encouraged to RSVP here. Press is encouraged to attend and will have access to commentary from organizers and featured speakers. For more details, please visit the March for Racial Justice website.
